Publicize: publicized posts are posted from a "WordPress.com" app instead of a "Jetpack" app

Reported by: csonnek Owned by: tmoorewp
Priority: normal Severity: normal
Plugin: jetpack Keywords: publicize facebook

Publicized posts to Tumblr indicate the post is from WordPress.com even if the post is from a self-hosted WordPress installation using Jetpack.

  • Cc jeremy+wp@… added
  • Keywords Tumblr removed
  • Priority changed from normal to low
  • Severity changed from normal to trivial
  • Summary changed from Publicize to Tumblr Refers to WordPress.com to Publicize: publicized posts are posted from a "WordPress.com" app instead of a "Jetpack" app

The same thing will happen with other Publicize services, like Twitter or Facebook. To solve this problem, we would have to create new "Jetpack" apps on each one of these social networks, and rewrite the Publicize module to use the Jetpack app instead.

  • Resolution set to wontfix
  • Status changed from new to closed

Services like Publicize utilize WordPress.com services to do this. This is unlikely to change.

  • Status changed from closed to reopened
  • Type changed from enhancement to defect

This has become a problem with the new Publicize format introduced in Jetpack 2.6. All Publicized links now mention "published an article on WordPress.com", with a link to WordPress.com, instead of just "via" WordPress.com.

Here is an example with a standard post format:

Image and Gallery Post Formats look a bit better since they also include a link to the post, but it can be confusing:
