OpenID delegation endpoint detection failure

It appears (on multiple installs) that WP-OpenID is no longer figuring out endpoints properly, and is always returning:

Could not discover an OpenID identity server endpoint at the url: perkypants.org

If I put the real endpoint in (perkypants.org/openid), it all works fine. Other OpenID consumers are happily determining the endpoint from the <link> tags found in the source of ​http://perkypants.org/.
